Upton Park is the underground station you need to head for if you are considering attending a football match, not West Ham station, and, frankly, I'd suggest drinking elsewhere, eg near Liverpool Street, Euston or Kings Cross stations, before matches and catching the Hammersmith & City Line (similarly, you could come from a pub near a District Line station too). Advice received from a West Ham fan suggests this, and I don't know the area, but I'd be very happy to take on board any other suggestions; eg I've read the local Wetherspoons is OK, but we all know the problems associated with them on matchdays.

However, if you're going to a mid-week match (for my suggestion isn't open at weekends), and you want to drink closer to the ground, though still a few stops away, visit Aldgate East, where there are a few decent pubs, but specifically the Grade II listed former hospital, The Dispensary, 19A Leman Street E1 8EN (0207 977 0486).  The Dispensary serves a good menu food-wise, (not cheap, but good quality), as well as 5 real ales, their 'house' ale, is brewed for them by Nethergate Brewery, Florence NightingAle, and up to 4 guest ales.  The Dispensary has a spacious bar, as you would expect in such a spacious building, seating on a balcony as well as in smaller, more intimate, seating areas, and a function room upstairs.
