Huddersfield

The Grove                                                                   King's Head                                                            The Vulcan

It's a while since I've been to Huddersfield, so to help jog my memory, I contacted my mate Will who still lives in Yorkshire, who reminded me of 2 pubs, regularly in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide, including the excellent Grove Inn, 2 Spring Grove Street HD1 4BP (01484 430113).  With up to 18 real ales and over 250 bottled beers from around the World, if you like beer, which I'm presuming you do, as you're reading this website, you'll find quite a few you like here!  Regulars include ales from Magic Rock, Thornbridge, Gadds, Dark Star, Durham and Marble breweries, to name but a few, and real cider is available too.

The second suggestion is the King's Head, St George's Square HD1 1JF (01484 511058), which is in the railway buildings, on your left as you exit the railway station.  The last time I was here, they had Bradfield Farmers Blonde as a regular; one of my old friends and colleagues from Kelham Island Brewery, Paul, brews at Bradfield, cheers Paul!

Also, to the right as you exit the station is the Head of Steam, St George's Square HD1 1JB (01484 454533), which tends to be easy to visit before a football or rugby match in Huddersfield, but I have been refused entry after a match, even though waving my CAMRA membership card; though, not a surprise really.

The final selection is The Vulcan, 32 St Peter's Street HD1 1RA (01484 302040), which not only sold the excellent Copper Dragon Golden Pippin on my last visit, but also has other well-priced ales from Yorkshire and Lancashire breweries, eg from Mallinsons and Moorhouse's.  The Vulcan also opens at 9am, so somewhere to head to for breakfast if you arrive in Huddersfield a little early in the day!
